'Brain Rot' named Oxford Word of the Year 2024: Here's what it means medically

Brain rotting is brain degeneration that leads to cognitive decline, memory loss and other neurological problems due to various reasons including smoking, consuming alcohol excessively, lack of exercise and sleep. Oxford defines brain rot as the 'supposed deterioration of a person's mental or intellectual state, especially viewed as the result of overconsumption of material (particularly online content) considered to be trivial or unchallenging'.
