Asaram Bapu convicted of rape by Gujarat court

Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu was convicted in a rape case by a court in Gandhinagar on Monday. The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on Tuesday. The case pertains to a complaint filed by a woman disciple in 2013. According to the FIR lodged at the Chandkheda Police Station in Ahmedabad, Asaram had repeatedly raped the woman between 2001 and 2006 at his ashram. Asaram, 81, has been already serving a lifer in Rajasthan's Jodhpur in connection with another rape case.
