Situated at Ratcliffe-on-Soar in Nottinghamshire, the coal power plant will generate electricity for one last time on Monday. This will end UK's 142-year history of coal power use that started with the Holborn Viaduct power station in 1882. With the last coal power plant shutting operations, the green campaigners have lauded the UK government's achievement in cutting down its carbon emissions to ensure a ‘just transition’ for the coal industry staff.
