Everyone, everywhere, is extolling to me the virtues of secondhand shopping: for the environment, my wallet, and charities in need of funds. Apps (I have them all: Vinted, Depop, eBay) fuel my habit. I scroll through cheap clothes and toys at night and, at times, find myself unable to sleep because of the buzzy excitement of a purchase. Inevitably, when the product is dropped off – by a now familiar delivery driver – the anticipation evaporates.
