Former Bangladesh PM flees to India: A look at leaders who sought asylum here

In 1959, Dalai Lama escaped from Tibet and came to India. He was granted asylum in 1959. Former vice president of Maldives, Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor, had arrived in Tamil Nadu; however, Indian authorities sent him back and he was arrested by the Maldives police in 2019. Mohamed Nasheed, former president of Maldives, took refuge in the Indian High Commission in Male in 2013 after a ccourt issued an arrest warrant.
