J&K: Panchayat chief shot dead by militants in Kulgam district

A panchayat head was shot dead on Friday by suspected militants in Adoura in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police said. This is the third such killing of a panchayat member in the last 10 days in the Union Territory.

Jammu and Kashmir Police said Shabir Ahmad Mir sustained critical gunshot injuries and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment where he died. Mir was an independent panchayat member.
