Lack of support, not ‘likeable’ — why India doesn’t have more women in science

From lack of social acceptance, not being ‘likeable’ to socio-economic setbacks — it is particularly hard for Indian women to enter and make a mark in the country’s scientific community.
Senior women scientists in India said the country has a long way to go in terms of gender representation in this field. For instance, of the 69 scientists who have received the Infosys Prize — one of the highest monetary awards that recognise scientific research — only 16 have been women.
