After Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20I cricket, Pandya was expected to fill in his boots, as BCCI groomed the all-rounder for the role. However, interestingly, Suryakumar Yadav was named as the new captain in T20Is and as per former cricketer Rajput, it can be a blessing in disguise for Pandya. Rajput wants Pandya to eye for a red-ball comeback as India gear for a mega five-match series against Australia later in the year.
