Media exempted from prosecution for ‘sting operation’ if conducted in good faith

The Kerala High Court has quashed criminal proceedings against two media personnel initiated against them for conducting a sting operation in connection with the state’s ‘solar scam case’, saying that media is exempted from prosecution for ‘sting operation’ if it is to find out the truth and to convey the same to the citizen. Fourth estate is essential to a healthy democracy ensuring that power is not abused, High Court Justice PV Kunhikrishnan said.
