Teacher-student ratio to play crucial role in West Bengal govt school merger

3,254 schools in West Bengal do not have a single student enrolled, but 14,627 teachers are officially employed with such schools. On the other hand, 6,366 schools have 100 or more students enrolled but have just one teacher each. "The idea now is to merge two or more schools under both these categories depending on the proximity of such schools to achieve balanced teacher to student ratios in the merged entities," said a senior official.
