A recent report from the World Bank has estimated that the direct physical damages caused by the two large earthquakes that hit Turkey on February 6 cost over $34.2 billion and recovery and reconstruction costs will be much larger, potentially twice as large and economic disruptions associated with the earthquakes will also add to the cost. The earthquakes resulted in the largest disaster to hit the country in over 80 years and have inflicted the heaviest damage in 11 provinces in southern Turkey.
