According to a recent study by University College London (UCL) researchers, the Arun River, located approximately 75 kilometres from the mountain, is contributing to the rise of Everest by gradually wearing away rock and soil at its base. This erosion is linked to an isostatic rebound, a process that pushes the Earth's crust upward as material is removed, allowing Mount Everest and its neighbouring peaks to grow.
