16.7 kg tumour ‘hanging like a gunny bag’ removed from man’s back

The tumour was removed in a complex surgery lasting 10 hours. The 27-year-old man hailing from the Pacific Islands has been carrying the non-cancerous tumour sized 58×50 cms since 2008, said the doctors at the Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI), Gurugram. Due to the high risk associated with the tumour’s size and the complexity of the case, the young patient was denied surgery at several hospitals in different countries.
