Archaeology lab unveils new finds about the lost town of Sarabay

The University of North Florida Archaeology Lab is excavating the lost Indigenous town of Sarabay at Big Talbot Island State Park. The team has uncovered Indigenous pottery, Spanish artefacts, bone and shell tools, stone arrowheads, and a Spanish glass bead. The project focuses on the Mocama-speaking Timucua people, who were encountered by European explorers along the northern Florida coast in the 1560s.
