The development comes amid private tankers doubling their prices as the Karnataka capital faces a severe water shortage. Around 200 private tankers have been deployed on a contract basis to supply water to Bangalore city. The district collector of Bangalore City standardised the tanker rates following an appeal from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). For a distance within 5 km, a 6,000-litre water tanker will cost Rs 600.
