The BJP has slammed the TTD for effecting a 10-fold hike in the accommodation rentals of certain recently modernised guesthouses and cottages at Tirumala. BJP State President Somu Veerraju found fault with the TTD for effecting an 'abnormal' hike with regard to rental accommodation at Tirumala from ₹150 to ₹1,700. TTD said it has modernised and given a new look to SV rest house and Narayanagiri rest house and revised the rentals accordingly to suit the needs of the devotees.
