Budget 2023: Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPI) seeking clarity & parity on tax

Over the years, several tax and regulatory changes have been made to ensure the smooth functioning of the FPIs. Lately, a couple of issues which require the attention of the tax regulators is taxability of interest income from Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) and Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) and withholding tax on dividend income. In other words, the FPIs are not able to get the benefit of the lower withholding tax rate under the tax treaty.
