Magnitude 5.6 earthquake hits Cianjur region in West Java province at a depth of 10km (6.2 miles). It was felt strongly in the Greater Jakarta area as high-rises swayed. Hundreds of buildings were damaged, including an Islamic boarding school. Meteorologist Dwikorita Karnawati has advised people to stay outdoors in case of aftershocks. The country is frequently struck by earthquakes because of its location on the "Ring of Fire".
