French transport and schools hit by strikes against pension reform

Nationwide strikes disrupted France’s transport network and schools on Thursday as labour unions demonstrated their opposition to President Emmanuel Macron’s plan to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. Stephane Rouart, a 49-year-old sanitation worker protesting in Paris, said it was not the right time to raise the retirement age. Union leaders said they wanted to reach the symbolic bar of 1mn protester taking part in 215 demonstrations nationwide on Thursday.
