The opening half an hour belonged to India as they only conceded 14 runs in 7 overs. But the next 30 belonged to the hosts as Keegan Petersen and Dean Elgar fended off the attack from Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed to bring up a gritty 50-run stand.

Shardul Thakur bagged two more wickets, of Petersen (62) and Rassie van der Dussen (1) to leave the hosts at 102/4 at Lunch on Day 2.
