India logs over 1,000 deaths, 1.72 lakh new cases in last 24 hours

The number of cases is 6.84% higher than Wednesday's tally of 1,61,386 infections. The toll includes 335 backlog deaths that Kerala added to its tally of fatalities on Wednesday, data from the Union health ministry showed.
Kerala reported the highest number of daily fatalities at 165, excluding the backlog deaths, followed by Karnataka at 81 and Maharashtra at 79.
