India on path of fiscal consolidation, says finance ministry

India is on a path of fiscal consolidation and the general government debt is expected to decline substantially in the medium- to long-term, the finance ministry said Friday. It said the International Monetary Fund's latest Article IV consultation staff report highlighting that the general government debt could be 100% of GDP by FY28 was in a worst-case scenario and was not a 'fait accompli'.
