India registers 9,971 COVID-19 infections, 287 deaths in the past 24 hours

India had raced past Spain to become the fifth worst-hit nation by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, only the US, Brazil, Russia and the UK are ahead of it. The number of active COVID-19 cases stands at 1,20,406. Meanwhile, some states announced resuming economic activities as part of the Unlock 1.0 phase. Civil aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that India will take a decision on resumption of international passenger flights as soon as countries ease restrictions on entry of foreign nationals.
