While India acquired freedom in 1947, it was only after January 26, 1950, that the Constitution of India happened, and the nation turned into a sovereign state, proclaiming itself as a republic. The Constituent Assembly conducted for the first time on December 9, 1946, and for the last time on November 26, 1949.
