Innovative gold smugglers try ‘sample smuggling bids’

Strong surveillance by customs officials at the Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) has triggered a series of ‘sample gold smuggling bids’ whereby the smugglers are testing innovative methods for sneaking in the yellow metal — albeit in smaller quantities — so that they will suffer only negligible losses even if they get caught. One such innovative method to sneak in gold was foiled by the customs officials on November 11.
