Just an hour and a half away from Pune, Junnar presents significant pages from the life history of Satavahana rulers and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It was not only an important seat of power for the Satavahanas, the earliest rulers of Maharashtra (2 BCE to 3rd CE) but also a popular link on the ancient trade route. Multiple excavations and readable inscriptions suggest that the rulers of this place had trade relations with ancient Rome and Greece.
