Maharashtra: Leopard spends 5 hours with head stuck in metal pot, rescued later

In a village in Dhule district of Maharashtra, the frightened male cat was tranquilised by forest officials and they sawed the pot off its head, Range Forest Officer Savita Sonawane said. There are an estimated 13,874 leopards in India, up from 12,852 in 2018, according to the 'Status of Leopards in India, 2022' report, released by the Union Environment Ministry on February 29. The highest number of leopards were reported in Madhya Pradesh (3,907).
