The Hubble Space Telescope spotted the most distant individual star ever seen. Nicknamed Earendel by the authors, this star existed within the first billion years after the Universe’s birth in the Big Bang, which occurred 13.8 billion years ago.
The amazing discovery—described by NASA as “record-breaking”—was published on Wednesday, March 30.
