Nine fishermen of Vedaranyam were assaulted and robbed of their equipment, gadgets and catches in mid-sea attacks by suspected pirates in three separate incidents on Tuesday night.
Vedaranyam Marine Police registered three different cases on Wednesday based on complaints lodged by the injured fishermen, who were attacked 10 nautical miles south-east of Arcottuthurai by pirates who came in speed boats.
