Preheating the oven allows it to reach the correct temperature before you put your cake tin in it. If you end up putting too much batter in a small cake pan or less batter in a large pan, it can result in cracks. Overmixing the batter ends up adding too much air to it which can cause cracking. Avoid opening the oven door. Patience is key to have the perfect dome. Once your cake is fully baked, you must allow it to cool down.
