Oscars 2024: Here's how movies get nominated for the Academy Awards

The eligibility begins on the first day of the Calendar year and ends on the last day. There are two ways a film can be shortlisted. The first is through the rigorous application process (necessary documentation and meeting eligibility requirements), and the second is an invitation to join The Academy directly. Among those eligible, some are shortlisted as part of preliminary voting. Out of those, five to six movies are nominated in each category, which then compete for the final award.
