Oting killings case in Nagaland: A betrayal of the promise of justice

The Oting killings in December 2021 caused an uproar, even threatened the Naga peace accord. Thirteen innocent civilians were killed in the botched Army operation. The SIT indicted 30 members of the Army unit involved in the operation and filed a chargesheet at the district and sessions court. However, the legal process was held up since the Centre had to sanction prosecution. Last week, the DGP’s office in Nagaland issued a statement that the Centre has denied sanction.
