Pithoragarh villages shun Holi fearing divine wrath

Like every year, more than 50 villages in three sub-divisions, Munsyari, Dharchula, and Didihat, in Pithoragarh district skipped celebrating Holi out of fear of angering their local deities, who "disapprove of bright colours". Chandra Sekhar from Khela village said, "Instead, we offer white Brahm Kamal flowers to Chipla Kedar and apply white vermilion on our foreheads." A local cultural activist emphasised significance of local deities and rituals in remote areas.
