Ranibala breaks Mirabai Chanu’s record, wins gold

Manipur’s Phamdom Ranibala Devi has set a new record in the 55 kg women’s weightlifting category at the 37th National Games in Goa. She broke Mirabai Chanu’s record of 86 kg in the snatch and lifted 106 kg in the clean and jerk and 196 kg in total to win the gold medal. This year, 406 players (180 men and 226 women) from Manipur are taking part in the Games and are competing in 26 of the 48 disciplines. In 2022, Manipur finished ninth with 50 medals.
