Sensex gains 300 pts and Nifty50 firm above 16,250

Both headline indices rise as much as one percent in early deals after a positive opening. The Sensex added 539.3 points to 54,791.8 and the Nifty50 climbed to as high as 16,329.4, up 159.2 points from its previous close.
Both headline indices are up 0.8 percent in the pre-opening session.
