Should your car know when you’re too drunk to drive?

President Biden signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill in 2021. The bill calls for the Secretary of Transportation to issue a rule in 2024 requiring all new passenger cars to be equipped with technology that can detect if someone has a blood alcohol level above the legal limit and if found to be above the level, he or she will not be able to start the car. This mandate has the potential to change drivers’ behaviour more directly than many previous federal safety regulations.
