The legendary Sidney Poitier has passed away at the age of 94. His death was announced by the minister of foreign affairs of the Bahamas, Fred Mitchell.

Poitier, who was born in Miami and raised in the Bahamas, was the first African American man to win an Academy Award for Best Actor. He is widely regarded as one of the earliest African American icons and role models in cinema.
