The Taliban’s sweeping orders to curtail women’s rights have exacerbated divisions in the militant group so much that rival factions are surrounding themselves with loyal troops. The Taliban banned women from attending universities or working in non-governmental organizations, using gyms, amusement parks and public baths – as well as the ability to travel more than 70 kilometers (43 miles) to travel without a male companion.
