The 2021 ozone hole has reached its maximum and is the 13th-largest since 1979. Scientists from NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported that this year’s ozone hole developed similarly to last year's.
Satellite observations showed that the ozone hole had extended a maximum of 24.8 million square kilometers roughly eight times the size of India before beginning to shrink in mid-October.
