Rishi Sunak made a cautious note with his first New Year’s message as British Prime Minister on Saturday, warning that the UK’s troubles will not go away in 2023, at the end of a “tough” 12 months in which his government is making “tough but fair” decisions. A particularly turbulent year for British politics saw Sunak’s two embattled predecessors, Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, unceremoniously removed from office as leaders of the Conservative Party.
