US Northeast braces for blizzard; over 5,000 flights cancelled

A powerful Nor’easter was forecast to hammer New England and the Middle Atlantic region this weekend with up to two feet of snow, bringing the potential for coastal flooding, power outages and significant travel woes.
Airlines had already cancelled more than 5,000 flights scheduled to depart between Friday and Sunday and a total of more than 8,500 flights were delayed.
