The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to do away with stamp registration duty in instances where the property is being transferred to family members. A 7% stamp duty is being levied on such transactions currently.
The proposal states that if the property is being transferred to parents, spouse, children, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, siblings and grandchildren, then a stamp registration duty of only Rs 6,000 has to be paid against 7% of the cost of the property.
