Some 6% of elderly women and 2% of elderly men live alone in urban areas and 20% of elderly men and 12% of elderly women live independently with their spouses.

Given older people are more likely to die of COVID-19, the ongoing pandemic has left more of them lonely and feeling vulnerable. While some older people are privileged to be able to stay indoors, working-class senior citizens have been forced to go out.
