Why is Bangladesh building a memorial for Indian soldiers?

Dhaka plans to open the doors to its first-ever war memorial dedicated to Indian soldiers in December. The memorial is meant to express gratitude for the Indian Armed Forces whose efforts were crucial for the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971. The foundation stone for the war memorial was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina during PM Modi’s March 2021 visit.
