On 16 October 1951, Liaquat Ali Khan, the first prime minister of Pakistan, was assassinated while addressing a gathering in Rawalpindi. This incident started a pattern in the country that continues to date: No Prime Minister has been able to complete a full five-year term in office.

Reasons why no PM has been able to finish a full term varied from assassinations to military coups to most recently a no-trust vote that took place on 10 April 2022.
