With 73 medical colleges, Karnataka ranks second in country

Karnataka housed 70 medical colleges in 2023. With 73 medical colleges this year, it is just behind Tamil Nadu's 74. Uttar Pradesh has 68 medical colleges, Maharashtra 67, and Telangana 56. Establishing a new medical college includes several key requirements: a minimum of 50, 100, or 150 seats; a well-equipped hospital with at least 220 beds and a laboratory; the provision of hostel facilities for students; and community, urban and rural health centres within its premises.
